Weird cosmetics ingredients - vegetable oil
January 23, 2012
The cosmetics industry relies on all sorts of ingredients when making its products. It’s often best not to think about this, particularly when it comes to the inclusion of urine which acts as a skin softener.
Another common ingredient in moisturisers is hydrogenated vegetable oil. In many ways, we are literally greasing ourselves up when we apply cream. Hydrogenated vegetable oil appears in body creams and lip balms.
If you use skin firming products, there is another ingredient you might be applying to your skin: egg white. It constricts when it dries, giving the firming effect that many people are looking for.
Male beauty: moisturiser?
January 23, 2012
It seems odd to write about male beauty. Even the phrase seems flawed. Men aren’t beautiful. They are handsome, rugged or just plain ‘good looking’. To describe a man as beautiful could easily be considered an insult, like saying he is a touch effeminate.
Yet the male beauty industry is booming with new men seeking out all sorts of products that are historically more closely associated with women.
Moisturiser is something often used by men. However, admitting this is to invite jokes from other men. The cosmetics industry recognises this and tries to get round it by producing aftershave creams, which somehow seem more manly. This is ironic, because conventional aftershave isn’t actually for use after shaving, it is really just a way of branding perfume for men. However, aftershave cream is suitable for use after a shave.
Make up to get you through the working day
May 23, 2011
I’m from the school of thought that there’s no excuse for not putting a bit of effort in with your appearance, and even during the week when I’m just sat in the office I like to make a bit of an effort
During the week I do like to apply all my little essentials like powder, lashes, lip gloss and eye liner, although I don’t wear half as much as I do when I’m going on a night out.
Blotting sheets are an absolute must have for touching up your base during the day too, as constantly applying pressed powder is likely to leave your skin looking a right mess come home time.
Big lashes for a big night out
May 22, 2011
Personally I don’t like to do things by halves, so when I’m off a big night out with the girlies, I really get going with the makeup! For nights out, I like my eye makeup heavy- and since I layer on the lashes, heavy is definitely the word!
I wear false lashes pretty much every day as they can make such a difference and are also a lot quicker to apply than a few coats of mascara. When I’m off on a night out though, I’ll use 3 pairs of false lashes to really blow the bar man away! Free shots all round!
How not to apply fake tan…
October 24, 2010
Laugh out loud! OMG how I laughed when I looked at this picture of the usually attractive Frank Lampard looking more like Homer Simpson than a fit footballer. The poor guy look’s ill! This is one fake tan gone seriously wrong!
I cant understand why he actually left the house looking like this. Its usually the likes of Jodie Marsh, Chantelle Houghton or any other Big Brother reject who fall victim to dreaded curse of fake tan gone extremely wrong – just take a look at the hilarious picture below for evidence that men are just as bad.
I was surprised that the snap was taken from him leaving Funky Buddah and not a drag queen party. The best is to come check out those hands and those lovely orange streaks between his fingers. I am surprised that with all those millions he is worth that he applies his own fake tan.
Dale Winton you have competition in the orange stakes as Frank has very nearly pinched your place!

Getting All Your Hair Chopped Off!
October 23, 2010
I haven’t had a hair cut in over 6 months, you may find this a little lazy, however my hair is in very good condition and I suit having long hair. In the world, everybody is unique and we all have different shaped faces so it is important to have a hair cut which suits and flatters the shape of your face. The shapes of faces range from oval, heart, oblong, to round and square faces. Here are some tips below for what hair styles to have depending on your face shape.
With an oval face - most hair styles will suit you, however dont have too much volume close to the top of your head as it will make your face look long. Layers are better to emphasise your cheekbones.
For the oblong face - don’t have really short hair or really long hair because this will emphasise the length of your face.
For the round face - add length by having a graduated cut or a long bob but do not attempt a blunt cut this will emphasize your round face.
For the square face - you may also have a thick jaw line so do not have a blunt cut or sever fringe - try lots of texture, using curls or layers.
For the heart-shaped face - use layers to highlight your cheekbones and fringes to draw the focus away from your chin.
Are you a trend setter?
October 13, 2010
I would say I am pretty average in my dress sense, I am not the best ever dresser all the time however I have some of my days when I put particular effort in and get dressed up smart and professional for work. There are also evening out when I am going out on the town when I get dressed up and put on a dress and get my legs out.
I am not a quirky dresser and I don’t set trends with my clothes. However I know from reading magazines and from taking advice from my friends I choose clothes which suit my body shape and size and which flatter my figure.
I am happy to be a normal person rather than a fashionista - I have got better things to spend my money on - ie. having a good time with my friends!
You should never underestimate how good exercise is for your appearance. It is no good spending all your time and energy thinking about fad diets and little expedients to sort out your figure, your skin, hair and nails, if you don’t put a bit of leg work in too. Exercise keeps your skin healthy and keeps your body working as it should do. The result is that you feel a lot better about yourself and this shows outwardly giving you greater confidence. If you stick at it, you’ll also see great results when it comes to toning up your body and gaining a killer shape.

A girl from New Zealand has been receiving tons of messages of support after she had her beauty pageant crown revoked for dying her hair.
Olivia O’Neil is only 15 years old, but that didn’t stop pageant organisers from putting a dent in her confidence after she posted a picture on Facebook showing that she had gone from blonde to brunette since her victory.
Former organiser of the Miss Wanganui pageant even suggested that Olivia wouldn’t get far in life because of the change.
Olivia’s story spread and it has resulted in loads of messages in favour of new look and even more condemning the pageant organisers for their closed-mindedness.
Neon Yellow or Electric Green Leather Jackets! Stylish or Not?
February 24, 2010
The African National Congress of South Africa will do anything to give their people a sense of identity. But are neon and luminous leather jackets going one step too far? Historically, leather jackets have often been a symbol of professionalism, or success, particularly amongst the black population of South Africa. These new jackets, coloured green, gold and black (largely the colours of the South African flag), are not perhaps everyone’s cup of tea. There are a total of 19 men’s and ladies leather jackets with detail including glowing buttons, electric green patches, yellow neon zippers with the jackets completed by the ANC party logo.
The designs are meant to give party members a sense of “identity”, but opinion suggests they are not that popular amongst the younger generation.
A BBC report quotes popular fashion designer Thula Sindi. He says:
“I wouldn’t be caught dead in them. It all just looks like patchwork…I don’t think anybody younger than 40 would wear that, out of fear of being ridiculed.”
I suggest sticking to popular leather jackets if you want to look cool and fashionable – colours such as black and brown will always be in. Neon yellow and electric green are not fashionable now, and never will be!!!
