The cosmetics industry relies on all sorts of ingredients when making its products. It’s often best not to think about this, particularly when it comes to the inclusion of urine which acts as a skin softener.

Another common ingredient in moisturisers is hydrogenated vegetable oil. In many ways, we are literally greasing ourselves up when we apply cream. Hydrogenated vegetable oil appears in body creams and lip balms.

If you use skin firming products, there is another ingredient you might be applying to your skin: egg white. It constricts when it dries, giving the firming effect that many people are looking for.

It seems odd to write about male beauty. Even the phrase seems flawed. Men aren’t beautiful. They are handsome, rugged or just plain ‘good looking’. To describe a man as beautiful could easily be considered an insult, like saying he is a touch effeminate.

Yet the male beauty industry is booming with new men seeking out all sorts of products that are historically more closely associated with women.

Moisturiser is something often used by men. However, admitting this is to invite jokes from other men. The cosmetics industry recognises this and tries to get round it by producing aftershave creams, which somehow seem more manly. This is ironic, because conventional aftershave isn’t actually for use after shaving, it is really just a way of branding perfume for men. However, aftershave cream is suitable for use after a shave.

Weird but Wonderful Beauty Tips

There are hundreds of beauty tips out there and some of them are utter garbage and can waste hours of your time!

If your hair is looking a little greasy and you don’t have time to wash and blow dry your hair use a fluffy makeup brush and apply a small amount of loose powder, don’t forget to remove the excess powder by tapping the brush on your hand, and apply to you roots. This works a miracle as the powder removes all traces of oil and no one will ever know that you have skipped a shower.

If you like to keep fit and go to the gym before a night out (well done you if you do!!!) and leave your house still looking red and flushed you should take an antihistamine as soon as you leave the gym to reduce the red cheek look.

It can be hard work hunting for a red lipstick, especially one that stays put all night but there are several out there now that stay put all night no matter how much drinking, eating and kissing you do but one slight problem these lipsticks tend to want to stay put even in the morning. Instead of coming home and rubbing your lips and smearing the lipstick over your face making you look  more like the joker and not a sexy scarlet you need to dip a cotton pad into make-up remover and gently rub over your lips. Trust me this works a treat!

When you have given your locks a blow dry instead of coating your hair in hairspray and risking making it look like you have not washed your hair and leaving it feeling hard the best way to give your hair volume and shine is to spray hairspray onto your brush and run it through your hair, roots to tips.

This is not a myth – tooth paste does work on spots! I have tried and tested this one and it worked! All you do is put a small amount on the spot and leave for 20 minutes to absorb then wash.

If I have not had a good nights sleep and especially if I have been drinking alcohol my skin looks irritated, red and puffy but to cure this I use a green tea bag that is slightly warm and dab over my face. This instantly freshens up my skin and gets rid of the puffy look!

A cream that is now going to be falling off the shelves and in very high demand is Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum. I have a lot of confidence in buying a product that has been tested on and proven results instead of a picture of a flawless model who has most likely been air brushed so I am definitely off to Boots today to hopefully pick one up if they haven’t sold out already!

Ways to control your oily skin this summer…

It’s nice to have a glow to your skin but its going one step to far when you have an oily nose and forehead. It seems to be more OTT in summer and can be a constant bother battling with the spots!

Instead of hiding away from the heat there are plenty of products out there that will help.

Firstly you need to stock up on products that are specially designed for oily complexions to make sure your skin stays as clean and clear as possible and does not clog up your pores with dirt.

Removing make-up can sometimes involve using a greasy remover that will most likely leave you with more spots so you should go for Neutrogena Visibly Clear Oil Free Make-Up Remover. I have used this before and it wipes all your make-up off without leaving your skin greasy.

If you suffer from oily skin it is important that you give yourself a facial every week to remove all traces of grease, dirt and blackheads.

Moisturiser is a must have for oily-skin. I take my trusty Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion everywhere with me, it keeps your skin hydrated for the day and absorbs immediately leaving skin soft and fresh.

Oily skin can play havoc with make-up so you have to take extra care when choosing and applying your make-up.

There are plenty of foundations that are designed specially for oily skin. For a foundation that works a treat for oily skin is Bobbi Brown Oil Free Even Finish Foundation which has 100 per cent oil-free formula to keep skin looking fresh and even all day.

When applying eyeshadow you need to go for a powder and not a cream eyeshadow. I know cream eyeshadows can be glam but by the end of the night you will have a creased line of eyeshadow. If you use powder it will absorb excess oil.

Cream blushers can rub off easily so choose a powder blusher instead. Oily skin can also make your mascara run, giving you smudges and panda eyes, so opt for a waterproof mascara which will stay put all day.

I have spoke to several people about Bio Oil and it always surprises me how most people have not got a clue who I am speaking about and have never heard of Bio Oil, this is a crime, Bio Oil is fantastic and everyone needs to know about it!!!

I am in need of a good facial and have been doing some research on where the most beautiful, flawless looking celebrities go for there monthly facials.

It seems that the hottest trend is to have an Oxygen treatment facial as used by the likes of Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez and Madonna. Eva Longoria even has her own machine installed at her house.

It does sound pretty amazing after doing my research on the Oxygen facial. As we all know without the proper amount of oxygen the cellular level, the skin begins to break and age prematurely. With the facial it cleanses, nourishes and revitalises every treated skin cell through the use of pure oxygen. Reports state that your skin will be left feeling softer, more supple and revitalised.

It does not come cheap though I found a London spa that costs £180.00 for the facial! If you don’t have that kind of money to splash on a facial you can buy a triple oxygen mask for around £39.00 that you can put on yourself and you will achieve the same glow after washing off the mask.

How i envy all those natural beauties who were blessed with stunning, flawless looks!

If you are one of those lucky girls here is a few tips on how to keep your beautiful look:

Always remember to remove your make-up everyday, if you keep your make-up on it will clog your pores and one day you will awake to find a dreaded spot.

Use a deep-cleansing mask once a week to draw out impurities and brighten up your complexion.

Exfoliate daily to remove dead skin cells and bring out the skins natural radiance.

Apply a warm cloth to your face with a few drops of lavender to help increase the blood circulation to add a healthy, youthful glow.

Even if you have oily skin it is vital to moisturise every day without fail. Every skin type needs hydration!

How to prepare yourself for a fake tan and make the tan last longer…

If you are heading for a fake tan you will want the best possible results and for the tan to stay put for longer.

If you follow these steps you are guaranteed to have the perfect tan that lasts for weeks longer:

Make sure you wax before your spray tan 2 days before or if you shave then shave with a new razor blade to get a closer shave so you do not have to shave every day making your tan last for longer.

It is vital that you exfoliate your skin before as it is the key to ensuring that the tan goes on smoothly leaving you blotch free. I tend to go for an exfoliate glove as it smoothes my skin all over. Do not exfoliate with sugar scrubs as they leave a heavy residue on the skin.

When you skin is exfoliated add a rich body moisturiser all over.

When you go to the salon for your fake tan make sure you are not wearing any make-up, deodorants or perfume and pull your hair back so it is off your face and back.

Apply a touch of Vaseline to your lips and clear coat of nail varnish to your nails or if you are wearing acrylic nails use yellow out nail varnish to protect your nails.

When you are bronzed do not get into your clothes straight away, it will take at least 10 minutes before your skin dries so stay patient and do not jump straight into a shower, if you can wait 24 hours before showering.

When you have your shower stay away for deodorant soaps and go for gently SLS free body wash with no anti-ageing properties. When you get out of the shower do not scrub your skin with the towel just gently blot dry.

To make your tan last and look richer make sure you apply moisturiser everyday.
