Eyebrow Threading

July 31, 2008

I usually pluck or wax my eyebrows but whilst shopping in Selfridges I was pretty surprised to see the beauty department threading eyebrows. I was to intrigued to walk away and had to try this out for myself, I have read about eyebrow threading in magazines but never seen exactly how it works.

The beautician was lovely and explained the whole process of threading to me. To be honest I was a little nervous as I assumed the process would be painful but it didn’t hurt at all.

To those of you who do not know what eyebrow threading is already it is a length of twisted cotton that is used to catch and pull out the hairs to create the “perfect” brow look.

I would definitely recommend anybody thinking of shaping or tidying up their eyebrows to try this simply procedure.

Amy Winehouse to launch fashion and make-up range?

July 30, 2008

Amy Winehouse is in reportedly following in the footsteps of Kate Moss, Britney Spears and a handful of other celebrities in talks about planning to launch a make-up range with cosmetic experts.

Personally I would never be daring enough to go for Amy’s look as I think the star sometimes looks rather scruffy and like she needs a good wash but to others she is a retro style icon and has attracted admirers in the fashion world including the one and only Karl Lagerfield.

She wants to bring out a range of cosmetics and even some fashion products. She is supposedly talks about bring out a range of products including hairspray, head scarves, perfume and her trademark liquid eyeliner, All very Amy, all the styles reflect her distinctive style.

Lets hope that bringing out these products may keep her focused on what she does best and not the disturbing state she is in at the moment.

If you suffer from dry skin invest in Bobbi Brown…

July 29, 2008

I personally do not suffer from dry skin but most of my friends do and are Bobbi Brown users and always rave how fantastic there products are for there skin type.

Before using Bobbi Brown they would wear tinted moisturiser, which is fine in summer when you don’t really want to be wearing that much foundation but in winter when they wanted to hide there pale faces with a good foundation it was impossible.

They all now own and swear by the Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation which is £24, price is pretty steep but it works out quite reasonable when you consider it actually does what it says and it lasts for months.

The make-up artists are very helpful on the counters and will always spend time with you to make sure that you leave with the right foundation and answer any questions that you may have.

Healthy Diet

July 25, 2008

Everyone knows to stay healthy and have healthy skin, nails, teeth, hair etc you need your 5 potions of fruit and veg a day and your meat and dairy, the ‘well balanced diet’ etc, but here are a few more unusual ones you could try!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is meant to contain enzymes that help get rid of dead skin cells, which will help the look of your skin, and helps the digestion of food. Supposedly it helps break down fat and has healing qualities but I think this is probably a fallacy!! How you’d get this into your diet on a regular basis poses a bit of a puzzle though!!

Carrots

Ever bought a skin product because it contains Retin A? It is meant to prevent premature ageing of the skin. Well carrots give the same effect.

Citrus Fruits

Produces collagen inside the body which helps your skin cells hold together. People try to add collagen to their skin but I don’t think it works as well as eating fruit and drinking juice.

Garlic

Another one to help with your wrinkles. Pretty much makes your breathe smell though, but that’s the cross you have to bare where beauty is concerned.

Wheat Germ

This is a good one if you are plagued with spots. Add a couple of spoonfuls into your breakfast in the morning. Sorted!

Laura Mercier - Primer Foundation

July 24, 2008

When I am in Selfridges I usually head straight to the M.A.C counter but for a change I thought I would try out Laura Mercier. I suffer from oily skin so after bending the girl’s ear behind the counter she recommended that I should be wearing foundation primer.

I am sure if like myself you suffer from oily skin you will notice that by the end of the day your make-up has practically vanished off your face, using primer I immediately noticed a difference in my make-up by the end of the day it was still in place and I looked no different from when I left the house at 8 in the morning. I am hooked already and I have only been using it for 3 days!

So it came to no surprise when I found out the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer is the best-selling primer and it has also been voted by In Style as “Best Primer”.

The foundation is an oil-free, creamy gel that you use before you apply your foundation. It acts like an invisible barrier between your skin and your make-up.

If you suffer from oily skin and I would definitely recommend this product!

And the worst fake tan ever belongs to…

July 23, 2008

Every now and then i like to have a dabble of some fake tan and i think i have been scared for life after an awful experience that left me looking more orange than Jodie Marsh, for those of you who think this is imposable believe me it could happen to you if you use Rimmel Sun Shimmer Self Tan gel.

Really it does serve me right as i decided to use this “orange tan” cream 3 hours before i had a night out planned when i should of tested it days before! But i was in a panic as i was wearing shorts and to my horror my legs were pure white so i slapped on the cream expecting to look like i have just stepped off a plane from 3 weeks in the Caribbean with an all over “sun-kissed glow!” but i think they should state on the bottle buy this if you want to look like a full-on “Footballer’s Wife”. All i wanted was to have a slight tan, is that really to much to ask for???

I was more mortified as it was to late to cancel my night out so there was no way of escaping. I tried so hard before i went out to wash the fake tan off with no luck, if anything i was making myself look like i had leprosy.

Well as you can now gather i went out that night, was a laughing stock to my friends, got told on more than one occasion that i smelt of fake tan and had even more stick a week later when we got the pictures printed and i stand out a mile away!

Wedding Day Make-up must haves for all your brides to be

July 22, 2008

On your wedding day you should look yourself at your most beautiful. Follow my simple steps when planning a wedding to look dazzling:

Eyes:
A perfect way to make your lashes longer and more defined on your wedding day is to curl your eyelashes with a curler before you apply your mascara. Secondly a must have is waterproof mascara as I am sure every bride will have a teary moment! Applying mascara will make your eyes open up and give you a wide awake look.

Applying foundation:

Invest in some good make-up brushes, I would recommend M.A.C, to apply your foundation as the natural oils in your skin could spoil your even coverage. Using a good brush with ensure that the make-up glides onto your face smoothly.

Lipstick:
This can be a tricky one on your wedding day as you will have a lot of kissing to do! You need to go for a long-lasting lipstick that does not dry out the lips. Laura Mercier offer a fab range and the girls on the counter are always really helpful and will know the best colour for you on your special day.

Foundation:
Primer is amazing as it leaves your skin smooth and it stays in place all day, so you do not have to worry and keep running off to the ladies to re-apply your make-up.

Blusher:

To dazzle in your photos add colour to your cheek bones, for a pink flush look, you should head to Bobby Brown as they have a lovely selection of colours to match your skin tone.

Perfume:
To finish your glam look you need to smell delightful. Do not completely spray yourself just a spritz on your wrist, neck and hair.

I am always searching for the best products on the market to keep me looking youthful and have found an amazing product that offers immediate results. I was introduced to Arbonne by a friend of mine, I met her for lunch the other day and she looked fantastic, I even believed that she had botox so I surprised when she informed me that it was all down to Arbonne Reactivating Facial Serum Day & Night. Obviously that night I went straight home to order this pot of magic for myself and when it arrived it was love at first try!

I couldn’t believe how soft my face felt in the morning after my first application. This was too good to be true! Most beauty products make your skin feel great but when you wake up in the morning there is not a noticeable difference. With this you will feel the difference in your skin instantly and the results just get better and better.

I absolutely love this product and can’t believe I haven’t invested in it sooner. For those of you who do not know much about this product, it has been designed to release dead skin cells to review new skin giving you that all over fresh glow, and trust me it does exactly what it says so if you are looking for a cream that delivers dramatic, instant results visit www.arbonneinternational.co.uk.

Getting the Chop!

July 11, 2008

What face shape are you? You can have an oval, heart, oblong, round or square face and if you’re clever your hair cut can highlight and enhance your look and flatter your face. If you get it wrong it can be really unflattering! Your hair completes your look and frames your face so it is therefore important that you get the cut right. Not everyone can get away with the same hair cut so take these tips into consideration when you get the chop.

For the oval face - You’ll find most hairstyles will go with an oval face so if you’ve got one then you’re pretty lucky. But try to not have too much volume close to the top of your head as it will make your face look long. Try layers to emphasize your cheekbones.

For the oblong face - You need to add width to your face so try a sweeping fringe or a short bob at chin length; it will have an equalising effect. Avoid really short or really long hair this will only highlight the length of your face.

For the round face - You are the opposite of the oblong face, you need to add length. Try a graduated cut or a long bob but do not attempt a blunt cut this will emphasize your round face.

For the square face - This probably means you have a strong jaw line. You need lots of texture, try curls or layers. Again, like the round face, no blunt cuts or harsh fringe lines.

For the heart-shaped face - You need to emphasize your eyes as your heart shaped face (namely your chin) will draw the focus away from them. Try layers to emphasize your cheekbones and fringes (sweeping or full, just on your brow line) to emphasize your eyes.
