Dangers of sunbeds

February 26, 2009

It is common knowledge that sunbeds are not good for you not only does it age your skin you are at risk of severe sunburn as proven by 14 year old Kirsty McRae.

I think it is disgusting that a girl of such a young age was aloud to go on a sunbed never mind being left unsupervised for 19 minutes leading into her going home and collapsing and suffering first degree burns to 70% of her body.

It shows how much appearance means to young girls now as Kirsty went on the sunbed as she was “feeling pale”. I don’t think teenagers are fully aware of the damage they are causing to there skin and the poor effects it will have on there skin in the long run.

If you are a teenager you need to stay clear of sunbeds and if you really want to look more bronzed try the safer option of fake tan. Plenty of salons now offer fake tan spray tans or buy a bottle and apply your own tan. Fake tan gives you an instant bronzed goddess look and you are not at risk of ageing skin, skin cancer or causing severe burns to your skin.

Hopefully the below picture is an eye-opener as to what effects sunbeds have to your skin!

Dazzerling smile on a budget

February 25, 2009

If you want to achieve a smile as bright and straight as Simon Cowell but don’t want to re-mortgage to be able to afford it there is now a new treatment called Composite Restoration at only £250.00!

I have had my teeth lasered white on several occasions but after hearing about this treatment I might try this one next time. The only thing that puts me off is that you have to have a needle, something I have a bit of a phobia over but pain = beauty. It sounds a really straight forward procedure though you have a jab and the dentist matches translucent bonding to your individual teeth, building up layers of colour to help restore you natural whiteness and Hollywood shine. It gets better your new tooth is then molded to the right shape, perfect if you have any cracks in your teeth and then you are off home. All this in one day…perfect!

I have only come across one company that offers the treatment so far. For details see www.dentexcel.co.uk.

I will be booking a consultation ready for summer so I will keep you posted!

Oscar 2009 - beauty and the beast

February 24, 2009

I have been pretty obsessed for the past day looking over pictures from the Oscars 2009 and wow did all the females polish up well. I have never seen celeb’s looking so flawless and groomed to perfection.

I think it is really hard to come to a decision of who stole the show but in my eyes after much debating over Natalie Portman, Vanessa Hugdens and Angelina Jolie I am going for Vanessa Hugdens.

I think Vanessa looks absolutely stunning and lights up the red carpet! Her hair and make-up looks perfect and don’t get me started on the Marchesa dress and Jimmy Choo shoes. She looks just as hot as the arm candy she had on her arm, Mr Zac Efron, lucky girl!

Vanessa is a natural beauty and doesn’t need to wear much makeup to look gorgeous but i think her evening look gives her an elegant glow and i love her smoky eye look.

What do you think of Vanessa’s look and do you think she was the beauty queen of the Oscars?

Who didn’t do it for me at the Oscars has to be Jessica Biel. Jessica is a stunning girl but her look was all very bland even her Prada dress looks dull.

For such a huge awards do you would think that she would of made more of an effort and what made her leave the house with her purposely-arranged messy hair i don’t know!

The look does her no favour and definitely doesn’t make her stand out with the other A listers she was rubbing shoulders with.

Next time try harder Jess!!!

Are you allergic to the products you put on your skin?

February 23, 2009

I know we should all use organic products as the possibility of having an allergic reaction are pretty slim but we all love to indulge in the non-organic products.

I have VERY sensitive skin on my face and once before had an allergic reaction to a foundation i bought (very inconsiderate as i had a night out planned that i had been looking forward to for weeks, typical!) and not only did it leave me looking like i had severely burnt my face it really, really hurt! So obviously my night was cancelled and i spent the evening with my face wrapped up in a cold towel feeling sorry for myself.

After doing my research i was surprised to find out that many people like me suffer from allergic reactions associated with beauty products.

If you have a reaction there are different ways you skin will react, you will most likely notice that your skin will change colour and turn into a rash and you will have the urge to itch. Worse is if you have a full-blown allergic reaction as there is a chance of scaring.

Products that you are at high risk of allergy to are:

Mascaras
Hair dye
Eye make-up removal cream
Sun lotions
Hair removal creams

Obviously since my disaster i am more wary about a product before i smoother my skin. I highly recommend that everyone should take an allergy test. Allergy testing is safe and easy and when you buy a new product that you haven’t used before you can check the ingredients make sure you are not allergic and have peace of mind that you will not set off an attack.

You can experience it anytime, so keep that point in mind!

Pete Doherty…hot or not???

February 21, 2009

I was pretty shocked to see that Pete Doherty is up for the sexiest male at the NME Awards. I know that the NME Awards is all about rock ‘n’ roll but why o who is an ugly, scrubber, scumbag in the list…as you have now probably gathered I find this guy utterly vile.

He is not sexy, he is everything but sexy, how can you find a guy sexy who has not washed or brushed his teeth in years and has heroin spots and scabs all over his body. Just thinking about how he smells makes my stomach churn!

This grease ball would definitely not make the most sexiest man in my eyes in a million years!!!

Do you think that Pete has a chance? Or does he make you feel as sick as he does me?

Max Factor – Age Renew Foundation

February 20, 2009

When it comes to foundation I usually wear my trusty M.A.C foundation but it can be a bugger to get your hands on in an emergency. It was my own fault for leaving it to late to go and buy some and I didn’t have time to go Selfridges so went to Boots and for a change bought Max Factor Age Renew Foundation.

OK, I am only in my twenties and this is probably for the older generation but I just wanted to try it out, nothing is wrong with wanting to feel more youthful but I was really disappointed. I don’t know if it is because I suffer from oily skin but I feel like I am wearing a mask and within 30 mins of wearing this foundation all I want to do is wash my face. It really does not agree with oily skin and makes it 10 times more oilier.

It was surprised by this as I have used Max Factor foundation in the past and been happy with the results but I would definitely not recommend this foundation for anyone who suffers from oily skin like me. I am going to give it to my friend who has dry skin and see if she thinks it works for her but I doubt it as it feels like you are putting paste onto your face.

50 cent set to release a men’s cosmetic line

February 19, 2009

Hip hop mogul, 50 cent is seriously hot and don’t get me started on that six pack of his but surely it is going to ruin his street cred bringing out a men’s cosmetic line?

It is pretty impressive going from a coke dealer to a hugely successful rapper to a ummm beauty king!

He is now set to rule the male population by bringing a cosmetics line out. The male grooming products will include a selection of moisturisers, night cream and health supplements. I like the way the line has health supplements just to make it that bit more manly. Maybe he should have added to his line some concealer to cover up bullet holes in your skin!

Good luck Fiddy!!!

How not to leave the house…

February 18, 2009

WTF is this hair do all about???

How I laughed when I seen this picture of Z-Lister Sally Farmiloe, all I know about this woman is that she is an actress and had an affair with Jeffrey Archer, a definite ZZZ-Lister in my eyes!

Her hair is well, amazing and draw dropping, but NOT in a good way! Talk about leaving the house looking like a drag queen. She gives Jodie Harsh a run for her/his money with this bouffant and don’t get me started on the make-up!

I cant belive she actually turned up to the Bafta’s looking like this. Imagine rubbing shoulders with likes of Angeline Jolie with a birds nest on your hair.

I wonder is something is living in there!

Anyway ladies, never ever copy this style and keep your eye on your mum you cant have her leaving the house like this!

Less is more darling!!!

How to apply your blusher to perfection

February 17, 2009

It can be tough work applying blusher and people sometimes tend to shy away from using it incase you leave the house looking more like a clown than a beauty queen.

For a night out blusher is a must have as it gives you an ultra glam look and is the secret weapon to beauty and to die for cheek bones.

So don’t be afraid to add the blush just follow these simple steps:

Firstly make sure you choose the right colour, there is hundreds of blusher colours to choose from and if you go to a beauty counter I am sure the staff will be more than happy to pick out the right colour for you.
If you are a beginner though I would highly recommend starting with powder blusher.

Next you need to invest in a good blusher brush, you cant beat M.A.C for a quality brush, just make sure you buy a good one as cheap ones tend to fall out and it is not a good look going out with black hair all over your face.

Now you have the kit its time to add the blusher!!!

Add a small amount of blusher onto your brush and get ready for work!

Whenever I am adding blusher I pout, funny look but it helps find my cheek bones.

Start at the apples of your cheeks and go up your cheek bone in long stokes. Repeat again if need be.

Now take the pout  of your face and you will have fab blusher and look gorgeous for your night out.

To finish the look you should sweep the blusher brusher over your nose, chin and forehead.

Lush – Exfoliate

February 16, 2009

I heart Lush! Wow there product range is amazing!

I love giving my skin some TLC and locking myself in the bathroom for several hours and having a good pampering session so i am always trying out new products. I got bought a bar of Lush’s Buffy The Backside Slayer as a gift, it is an exfoliate, something that i hate doing but have to do and using Lush actually makes me enjoy exfoliating.

I have never come across a product like Lush it smoothes and softens my skin like a babies bum, i am not exaggerating when i say i feel like i have a new layer of skin. Liposuction is a definite no no when i can use Lush for a fraction of the price. The bonus is that the smell is scrumptious too and makes you want to stick your finger in and taste it (obviously not a good idea!!!)

It comes in a bar so it is really easy to use and not messy…just get scrubbing and rinse!

Now i am pretty hooked and after looking over there website and all the other products they have to offer i will definitely be trying some more of there range. A huge selling point to me especially is that all there products are natural beauty products.
